The primary objective of the annual international conference "Nuclear Energy in New Europe" is to foster the exchange of information and cooperation amongst professionals active in the fields related to the peaceful utilization of nuclear energy. The conference traditionally blends contributions from research and educational institutions, nuclear vendors, utilities and regulatory bodies and therefore provides a forum for all nuclear stakeholders.

The 2009 conference outlined the need for "Research and Education for Sustainable Nuclear Power". Highly educated and motivated nuclear professionals will certainly provide the essential driving force for the future of the nuclear energy. The internationally announced needs for large quantities of energy from low carbon sources are expected to further advance the needs for both research and research based education of young professionals.

At the conference, 6 invited lectures and 146 papers were presented: 38 of them orally, 108 as posters. 212 participants from 27 countries attended the conference.
